    Awesome video! So funny.

I like the part where you've crushed their hopes after realizing it's fake.

he fit the part of a recently fired hipster who really needs a job and can only make ends meet by handing out fake papers. or a writer... take your pick.

It must have been sad when people found out all of the “good news” was just a joke.
  •
  • Michael Benjafield 3 years ago
    this is brilliant.
must have cost a shit load though

Fantastic. I love the way New Yorkers handle stuff like this.

I really hope the NY Times doesn't sue over this.
  • B Unis plus 3 years ago
On what grounds? Law surrounding parody is pretty clear cut, even to the Times' lawyers. It was a mean trick, in my book, raising false hopes like that. I agree with the woman who was pissed off about being lied to in such a blatant way. ;) I prefer getting my daily quotient of lies in a more subtle and continuous manner.

Saw this on the news and though I love stuff like Improv Everywhere I gotta say this one went right over my head. Just don't see the point and seems to me the resources that went into this one as far as time and money could have done so much better elsewhere. Most of the reactions would be classified as "mildly confused", hasn't the Onion been doing this for awhile now to anyone who reads it for the first time? A few moments of "Huh?" followed by "Oh, I get it." Not much of a statement, not artistic, and not exactly funny. Again, right over my head.

Andrea mentioned this today and when I came home I had an email about it waiting for me. I wish I would have gotten a copy!

    Days of Heaven Can Wait

if you're old enough to get that joke.....you probably aren't reading it.

it might be called: Spot the guys without television.
At some level it gives me hope.

  • Heather St. Clare 3 years ago
Everyone's faces are so funny...makes me wonder though, how many of them actually believed it and went on to tell co-workers who laughed at them?
  •
  • HedsIc 3 years ago
I wonder how many of those people got excited thinking a family member was going to get to come home safely soon. Just to find out it was a prank.
  •
  • loonachic 3 years ago
they're looking at it like it's some sick porn or some shit. come on people..lighten the f up! heheheh. this is great.
  • VendelasCity 3 years ago
It reminds me of our "Cat Found" poster video series :) The reactions... lol!

yeah, not a fan. i respect you, but not a fan. its like telling a cancer patient they're cured, and then saying "…yeah, we're just kidding about that. lighten up."
  •
  • VendelasCity 3 years ago
WOW! This is very optimistic! I hope that we'll see real headlines like this in our lifetime. Very clever, too... even better than Loonachic and my "Cat Found" poster/random passersby reaction videos :)

Great Work guys. Thank you very much for this. I hope, that all of this News will become Reality one day. For all of us on the whole World :-)

Dude, thats EPIC! If only it were the real news today. I can only hope that the man I voted for will help make it a reality. :)

Sorry, but most people looked pretty unimpressed to me. Others who were smiling seemed to have figured out it was a joke pretty quickly. All this effort for so little in return - very unimpressive!

  • Thibault Brock 3 years ago
They talk about that on French TV, 20 minutes ago !!

aww.. sad... i can see how its funny. but its also sad...a little heartless...but hey, most funny things are these days.

    What a delightful idea...

Not living in NY, it's interesting to see "people's reactions" in the city, which are much more subtle than what I think they would be other places in the country. It seems like hardly anyone vocalizes their expressions, and the biggest response you see is a longer-than-usual pause, or a slight smile.

  • Buck Flashroy 3 years ago
Nice - although I think the bit about the war ending was a bit far. I think it's pretty obvious why. Did you get much real media coverage?
  •
  • Matthew Chavez 3 years ago
Nice effort- mildly funny... needed a much bigger punch-line for bigger mouth dropping reactions. How about "George Bush Impeached! 60 days is still too long to wait!"

    Ha Ha :)

I would feel so terrible having to tell them it was fake
  •
  • John Brown 3 years ago
How would one know the difference between the fake and the real New York Times? Both seem to be to lack serious credibility the last couple of years.
  •
  • Tim C 3 years ago
pretty much no reaction from most. That was dull.
  •
  • brandon hess 3 years ago
Interesting idea but I feel bad for any of those people that have family over there. Then again, that's probably the point.
  •
  • Rhay Fe 3 years ago
This is great and very cruel at the same time. Good idea tho.
  •
  • Alan Natale plus 3 years ago
I think you could take this idea to RED STATE central, print up the same news for their major newspaper THEEENNNN you'll really see some reactions.
  •
  • Shawn Baldwin 3 years ago
This is really funny! But I'm sure people were pissed to find out that they were still stuck in the real world, afterwords.
  •

this is horribly depressing, and really funny at the same time.

reminds me of the lullaby "rock a bye baby on the tree top, when the bow breaks the cradle will drop." warm and cuddly and then a swift blow to the head. wonderous. this is why i love you both.
  • B. Jervey 3 years ago
because we're like swift blows to the head?

I suppose nobody thought of the possibility of giving false hope of seeing their loved ones alive again by giving a fake newspaper announcing the end of the war to someone whose wife or hunsband or son are fighting in Iraq?
  •
  • Podratic 3 years ago
It's bad enough having regular media lie to us. What's your point. Just for a laugh. Hmm. Not very funny
  • Blake Whitman staff 3 years ago
i think you're missing the point.
  •
  • Podratic 3 years ago
Just because I didn't find it funny doesn't mean I'm missing the point.
  • Blake Whitman staff 3 years ago
the point wasn't to be funny.

This was the sort of a thing i was expecting to see in Youtube... I usually come to vimeo to see video technique an story and plot and stuff, Art in short... With much respect for the fact that you all are amazing film makers and I'm not even close to taking mediocre videos, I still found this video lacking in art which is what I usually come here for... Not to mention the false happiness and real pain it would have caused to many people involved in this war....
  • Blake Whitman staff 3 years ago
Vimeo isn't just about art, its about video creation in all its forms. And conversation is one of the important parts of Vimeo, this video being one such conversation.
  •
  • jon obsworth plus 1 year ago
false hopes never, positive options creatively expressed:)
