45 minutes east of Rome is Hadrian's Villa, a large complex of buildings that was built almost 2000 years ago. The Maritime Theatre is a small island home that Hadrian often retreated to. Access was via a small wooden bridge that was pulled onto the island to prevent anyone disturbing the most powerful man on Earth at the time.
