Hi-8 video and animated stills from a photo shoot with:
Wei Mu and Elena Ollick - Race model management
Stills by Tal Shpantzer talfoto.com
Video, Music and Edit by Stephen Dirkes
Hair and Makeup by Masha Gvozdov
Wardrobe by haydenharnett.com and dalaganyc.com
Studio and Set by eastcoastaliens.com
Some "hommage" goin down in the music I wrote for this piece. Perhaps because Tal's images looked a bit like they were taken in the chill room of a dirty night club that I have debauched in, in the early '90's in Toronto, the mid 90's in Asia, the late '90's in Europe.... So many fond blurry memories....
I wanted to reference the tempo/vibe of Brooklyn ( Benny Benassi ) Electro-Clash meets Euro Sound System Techno Rave/ meets clunky-homemade-electronica. It sounds a bit like a wonky tech track slowed down to electroclash tempo, no?
I shot portions of the video with an '80's Hi-8 analogue video camera. If that wasn't enough retro grunge, I also filmed the tape rewind/fast forward whilst capturing ( love that ). The rest of the piece is made up from Tal's digital stop motion stills shoot on a Canon 5D ( the mark 1 [no video]). Big thanks to everyone on the shoot and especially Bert Esesnhertz from East Coast Aliens for letting us shoot in his "Splatter Room".
Styling detail- the record cover the model is holding has a photo of the 8mm camera the other model is holding (kool, no?).
