I am sceptic about it. Unfortunately, I cannot read Persian, so I cannot judge what Iranian bloggers actually talk about. Please also note, that only a minority of population have internet access in Iran (35% of population, internetworldstats.com/me/ir.htm). 100 thousand blogs maintained per 65 million people is not that much, it is like 0.1% of population. Not very representative. It is 10 times less than percent of pedophiles in America (pedophileophobia.com/myth-facts.htm). Also, it might be that a huge number of blogs is just set up by those who want to provoke an overturn there (CIA's bucks working?). And what's the point to change the government and provoke a potential civil war in your own country, if you can already write anything to blogs and be SAFE. Doesn't it sound like freedom? Even this propaganda video does not neglect it. Please leave Iran in peace, guys, and the rest of the world too.

    Nicely done.

Jetxee, the CIA does not need to be involved - there has always been a contingent of people since the Revolution (especially those who fled to the US but still love their country) who have been against this repressive govt. Most are of an educated middle-class, since as you say many poor don't have Internet access. They are not totally free - the state still bans certain movies, books, and political dissent. They have a version of Sharia law. It is often arbitrary in arrests. Look at videos of Iran and Tehran, which has over 4 million people there alone, to get an idea of its youth and modernization. They elected Ahmadinejad (though he has no power to do much at all, since the Supreme Leader Khamenei and the Guardian Council have the power), but many Iranians are unhappy because of high inflation, high rents and a bad economy that has not bought the reforms that were promised. Iran still has a low literacy rate in comparison to most Western nations, but its population is mostly youth. Even some religious leaders there have admitted that they will need reforms because of this youth.

The bloggers are another voice for freedom of speech. If they can write in English, they can enlighten many Americans' confused views of Iranian people. Our govt should not meddle, but I support Iranians. I applaud the bloggers' efforts! (From the USA)
  • jetxee 3 years ago
I just wish Iran to never see foreign troops in its land. I hope its youth is able to preserve their ancient culture. And I am sure they are able to modernize without any external “assistance”. In due time.

What about high inflation and bad economy, the USA and Israel could have helped better if they removed sanctions against Iran (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanctions_against_Iran). It is almost impossible to have good economy, if you are forbidden to trade normally. This would give more opportunities to those young and liberal forces there. And what's more important, any hostile rhetoric would lose the base in this case. Politicians would have to adjust to open economy and to growing businesses.

What about the video. It is nicely made, but I think it is very biased and provoking. Also the nick of the submitter (“Mr.Aaron”) does not sound like a nick of an Iranian blogger. So I see it as s a nicely made propaganda.

Promoting education and economic growth in Iran is much more important than promoting a revolution. And it would change things slowly, but peacefully. Revolutions are too painful. Counter-revolutions too.
  • Alex Vestrum 3 years ago
I don't understand how it is propaganda. Isn't he only stating facts? For example when the monarchy fell, how the last monarch modernize Iran, and about how blogs are used as expression for those who can use it? I would say if you can't read Farsi, and haven't read through all 700 000 blogs, you maybe shouldn't assume its "propaganda". Its provocative I admit, but in a good way. I want to know more about Iran now.
