I don't remember this fight at all.
But I think I do remember just wanting to go home. I was happy with my performance so far, my neck was really in agony and that was zapping any real will to go on.
I also remember why my shots were getting more and more crappy in this and the last fight. It's because the mats were like sandpaper and had ripped pretty much all the skin off my knees. Every time my knee touched the ground it was like pouring salt on a wound. As a consequence I basically just lowered myself down instead of shooting in hard. Again, I really wasn't enjoying this experience any more.
Those are my memories (and excuses) for a subpar performance. Saying that though, he does look pretty good and experienced. I guess that makes sense, it's the final after all.
At one point I get my head under his groin and throw him off to one side, I'd honestly thought he'd tumble to his back like an eejit. He didn't. I got him down anyway. Phew. It seems I was the eejit.
After that, I was really pleased with my switch from one half guard to the other side. I had a little moment of joy when I did that, particularly when I heard the other guy's corners thinking he'd done well. "Ha! It was me who did well, actually..."
Then we fall off the mats and Hoss shouts "that's clearly off the mats". It's true, it was. And I'd normally have stopped but I figured if they were going to let me win off the mats, I should probably do it. He was still fighting too and I wanted to be sure I got moved to the centre with a non-neutral position. I guess that's one of the few bits of "experience" I took to the competition.
The other bit was to insist on restarting in the position we stopped in - no matter how awful it was for him. My legs were too tired to hold him convincingly anyway, so I guess it wasn't that awful for him after all.
I previously didn't push my case after a restart and lost as a consequence. Or as part consequence. Again, that's my limited competition experience showing through.
I think I won this primarily on guard passing again. I can't remember why he kept escaping my Side Control. I think I was just too tired to give a damn. Either that or he was good at it.
Nonetheless, I won.
