Building Global Democracy news conference
The workshop brings together leading academics, activists and officials from around the world to explore how marginalised groups can be empowered in global affairs.
Examples from around the world
The 3-day workshop looks at an example of innovative practices from each of the 10 world regions.
These examples include a number of structurally disadvantaged groups, including Afro-descendant women in the Americas, dalits, informal workers, Muslims, peasants, people living with HIV/AIDS, sexual minorities, small island states, subnational ethnicities, and youth. The studies also evaluate various strategies to overcome marginalisation in global politics: e.g., to attract state sponsors of one’s cause; to invoke global human rights machinery and to access global deliberative spaces such as social forums and mass media.
