This is our psychadellic opus. 30 minutes of experimental 16mm, hand-processed, black & white goodness. Scale this to 100%, turn up the sound, turn down the lights and get comfy.

My pal David and I started riding cross country on our motor-bikes chasing down UFO's and American road-mythology. The result is this film. It was our college thesis project and got good play at the Brooklyn Underground Film Festival and the Wild & Scenic Film Festival. We had always planned to make a new one but somehow we split ways in Alaska.

I'm really glad to get this one out into the open after all these years. I like checking in every once in a while to see how much my film style has evolved since those heady art-school days. In a big way, this trip & film combo was directly responsible for my eventual life in AK, and my first contact with environmental and native issues that persist with me in all of my current work. It's a trip. Enjoy!

Wonderful project and it sort of smacks of the experimental film era of the time. I really enjoyed this, as an MC guy, and as an artist and photographer. Thanks! AAA+++ and *****

It feels like a gentle and mystical road trip.

I liked the sound track, it complemented the footage very well. Sound makes a huge difference to any film.

Thanks for sharing your film on Vimeo.

Thanks Lyall and Brown. Making this film was a really personal process, and I'm really happy to be able to share it with you both! I think it's really interesting how this film has previously been shown to mostly small, intimate screenings. And now, thanks to Vimeo, it's even more intimate in the privacy of your own computer. I love that it has a life "out there" once again!

what exactly 16mm camera You used? wery inspired movie!

Thanks for the feedback! What in particular did you enjoy? We shot this on 2 cameras -- a really old & leaky bolex (of course, we didn't know how leaky until we started processing the film) and a newish k3. The k3 was the real hero of the shoot though. It spent most of a month strapped to the side of a motorcycle, intercepting bugs, rocks and intense desert sunshine in between rolls of film.

oh, yea... You are saying about bolex in the beginning. Video reminds me some good road movies. This is documentary, so it is even more realistic. I'm also little UFO-freak :) I must have Krasnogorsk-3!

It's a great camera. The bolex footage on this film was cool looking, but all of the steady, solid footage came from the K3. The best part is that if you buy them direct from Russia (on eBay) they come with all of the accessories (shoulder brace, leather case, filters, etc) for an insanely low price. Over 10 years ago I think I paid about $150 for the whole kit.

Absolutely fantastic! Not many films can pull of a lumbering lyrical pace, but this totally does. Reminds me a lot of Ross McElwee's work, particularly Sherman's March (which you should definitely check out, if you haven't seen it already). The film is also a strong argument for shooting on 16mm film, a dying format in the documentary world. I look forward to checking out the rest of your work.

Thanks Patrick! What you said means a lot to me. I'm a big fan of Ross McElwee's work, he's a big inspiration to me. In particular, watching Sherman's March was one of the films that really got me into making documentaries. You should check out my other video on here "All That Glitters" to see what I'm making now (6 years later). You can also see the work more clearly on my website: frontiermediaarts.com
