The word iconic is overused to the point of meaninglessness. Few words, however, better describe the photographs of Mick Rock. Flip through a stack of records and you’re bound to come across one of many myth-making images he’s created of rock gods in their prime: Lou Reed Transformer, The Stooges Raw Power, Queen Queen II, Syd Barrett The Madcap Laughs, and Joan Jett I Love Rock and Roll. His lens bore witness to the Glam era, not only as Bowie’s official photographer during the Ziggy Stardust era but also capturing characters like the influential Lindsay Kemp, Bryan Ferry, and the filming of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Rock continues to document contemporary artists, including Lady Gaga, Janelle Monae and Cee-Lo Green.
