The story of a young man with Asperger syndrome who struggled for 10 years in mental health services for being misdiagnosed with a mental health disorder. As told by his mother Janette.
  • Joseph Valentinetti plus 10 months ago
Well done. Diagnosis is a guessing game, isn't it? (Sadly enough).
  • Lorene Amet plus 10 months ago
Yes, it can be, especially for some loosely defined conditions. Autism is still only defined by 3 main types of behavioral impairment, but we know, that totally unrelated conditions come with the very same behavioral features. So what does it mean? Additionally, when you have Autism issues, the validity of other co-morbid diagnoses is highly questionable.

What a sad story Lorene. My heart goes out to Janette and her son Danny.
What a society we live in where psychiatrists are little more than drug dispensers.
In the past I have researched drugs given to my own children only to be horrified at what I found out about them. When a working class bloke like me tells a so-called brilliant paediatrician of high EU standing what he thinks of them for prescribing certain drugs, the look on their face is priceless.
Anyway this is a very good video. Janette told her story well I thought.
  • Lorene Amet plus 10 months ago
Thanks Martin for your fine comment and support. Yes that look is priceless! I told Janette I was worried she was too good and that people would think it's a made up story; that is why I included some photos of Danny. It is not made up and this is how informed and articulate parents have to be to stand by their kids. The collective knowledge parents have gained is far greater than any academic knowledge- and thanks to the Internet, we can share this knowledge a lot more effectively than ever before- The Internet is what will bring down this whole none sense... here is some hope at least.
  • 33hirtz plus 10 months ago
You're welcome Lorene. I thought Janette very believable and you could see in her manner at times just how cut up she was recounting Danny's story.
Before the internet I had to rely on public libraries to have a few good medical dictionaries (now many libraries are closing). I agree, the internet is such a great resource.
    :-))

Mesmerizing. It couldn't have been said better.

    Thanks Michael- I agree!

It's sad when doctors care more about giving prescriptions to fatten their pockets instead of truly helping. Very well done Lorène. My heart goes out to Danny and his family.
  • Lorene Amet plus 10 months ago
Thanks Caleb- In the UK, doctors tend not to get paid accordingly to drugs prescribed, though there are financial incentives to vaccinate. What this story shows instead in an inability to think outside the box. As Janette rightly said they are trained to treat what they see, not the causes of a problem. In addition, they have way to much faith in drugs and in their (limited) knowledge. They will always supersede other's opinion even when it's plainly obvious they have got it wrong.

wow Janette is such a great mother, the idea of doing what you feel best and being accused of parental interference is a little scary. i am sure all the health care professionals believed they were doing the right thing. but what an unfortunate set of circumstances when the drugs create a whole new set of symptoms and completely confuse any diagnosis. internet info must be looked at carefully a lot of the drug companies masquerade behind what appears to be private citizen forums. great work on this Lorene

Once again we see what happens when psuedo-science gets control; never know when let go. Sooner choice be given and the monopoly of psych-dom removed the better for all our health. FB. Psychiatric Abuse Scotland

Thanks Andrew for your comment and dropping by- pseudo science? You mean psychiatry? Psychiatrists tend to view themselves as within Science, whilst others, parents, or organizations such as our charity, tend to be viewed as part of the pseudo science. In the end, pseudo science is used as derogatory term against the other side... Perhaps, the issues are not so much who has some scientific truth and correctness, as science has not yet sufficiently guided us on how to proceed with AS and with a range of psychiatric conditions. Perhaps the issues are more to do with arrogance, loss of common sense, loss of compassion, loss of open mindedness.

On comment above"Psychiatrists tend to view themselves as within Science" Nazism and psychiatry are very much same. Students attended university learn how destroy the disabled and Jews. AS suffer if Nazi party won the war never had survived. All fact and see no reason delete this post. Science huh, we must be wary of what is factual science these days. Ask your GP or psychiatrist questions, if AS suffer soon find much release from confusion of lies behind psych-dom.

Scotland has no human rights. My wife was in the psychiatric hospital at the same time as Janette's son. The reason ? They didn't like her. She has no mental illness. They just needed another body to test drugs on.
  • Lorene Amet plus 9 months ago
I am sorry for the distress experienced and wish you both all the very best.
  • Andrew John Younger 9 months ago
Lorene, what about getting that camera onto some citizens of been abused by pseudo-science. Never been proven psychiatric disorder, that not really confusing, add psych drugs to AS suffer and must without doubt make life many times more confusio.
