SDM was the fourth street crew to create work at NGV Studio.

The crew whose work receives the most comments via Twitter and Facebook will be selected to show their work at the NGV Studio when it officially opens in May 2011.

We want you to be the judge, so comment on posts right here on FB or check out #ngvstudio on Twitter.

And be sure to see SDML's work at NGV Studio, next to NGV Kids Corner at Federation Square, until late April 2011.

SDM was seen as one of the main driving forces in Melbourne’s scene in the late 1990′s and early 2000′s. Formed in the late 1980′s by Jumble and some of his mates from Port Melbourne, then joined by Dscreet, Trim and Method the crew really picked up the pace. Eventually Dvate, Dabs, Askem, Ethics, Urge, Iree, Wei2, Rcor and Aeon became part of the line up around 1999-2000 and then Rase, Myla, Sup, Surge, Ninja, Mercy, Tizer and Shucks got on board.

They were known for elaborate full-colour productions with such a huge diversity in styles from member to member. Everyone in the crew has a different perspective, so an SDM productions always stood out as something completely unique to the standard Melbourne style.

Responsible for Melbourne’s famous first full colour top-to-bottom whole train and the epic SDM between South Yarra and Richmond station which is still the biggest piece in Melbourne. There’s strong ties with ADN crew as most members are in both.

Members recently won the best production catagory for the Aus/New Zealand region in the Ironlak Comp 2010. They also competed in the world’s biggest graffiti battle Write 4 Gold which was held in Melbourne in 2008.

The crew is still as strong now as it ever was, with most members going on to take their craft to the next level. Members are spread around Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney aswell as London, Hong Kong, LA and San Diego.

As well as all being very successful, be it, Fine Artist, Tattooing or Graphic Design, SDM is still one of the most motivated and popular graffiti crews in the city. (read less)
