Musicians in Parker's Upper School jazz bands were the first students in the city to experience the Chicago Jazz Orchestra’s new “Side By Side” educational initiative, which provides developing musicians a unique opportunity to perform with seasoned professionals.
As part of this experience, bandleader Jeff Lindberg, CJO performers and guest artist Ron Blake shared time in the classroom with Parker’s jazz performers and teachers Stu Greenspan, Tim McNamara and Alec Synakowski, offering guidance and tips on technique to the student instrumentalists. Students then joined Lindberg and his orchestra in Parker’s Diane and David B Heller Auditorium for a special Sunday performance to demonstrate their skills in front of a live audience.
Below is a gallery featuring photos from this special performance with audio of the Upper School Jazz Band, performed and recored in class.
