Lots of skillz from the kids, and good video...
Really good stuff for this age.
Great shots & edit, congrats.
I say this for the same reason a gymnast, or circus performer wouldn't wear one. It limits mobility and over all perception, which are essential to completing tricks as complicated as they do. The real battle is teaching the kids to know their limits and to gradually build on fundamentals instead of rushing into what they aren't ready for.
That dynamic also changes once you start getting into 12ft high vert halfpipes/ mega ramps. When you are going at speeds that are in excess of 40mph helmets and pads can be quite useful.
Also, these particular kid's parents are fully aware of their skating situation. They happen to ride for Lakai, one of the most renowned skate shoe companies in the world. Ty Evans is right up there with Spike Jonze in terms of his reputation as well. (In fact they often work together) So they have been through the routine long enough to make sure stuff is OK with the parents.
Its cool that you would be concerned though! Have a good day bro!
Thanks for the explanation Darren, and I guess I see your point...highly experienced vs. amatuers. My reaction was from the parent side of me. I just hate seeing any young person injured for life. Although a poor analogy, just as riding a motorcycle, you never know what might happen.
But the video and editing is killer!
Helmets are a personal choice, but it's important to realise that there are serious risks and that accidents happen.
I agree, it is important to know your limits and the risks you take. Its that way with pretty much anything in life.
