1. Oil'd

In April 2010 a massive oil spill began in the Gulf. The entire country was glued to the news until the well was capped, and then we forgot about it.
As the year anniversary was approaching I became curious, just how much oil was that exactly? Where would it have gone? What I found was shocking.
So in an effort to further our discussion on oil dependency I created this short animation to help illustrate just how dependent we truly are on oil.

UPDATE: A few people have mentioned strange things with the audio. I've changed a couple audio settings and hope it fixes any problem people may have had.

Love the colors, type and the message ;)
You forgot to mention the vast amount of food created with the oil.
Each 1KJ of food requires up to 10KJ of oil. From the fertiliser used, to the tractors, electricity for the processing, the refrigerated trucks, warehousing, packaging, distribution, storage at a supermarket, people driving it home, keeping it in the fridge, using it and throwing away the plastic (which then takes many many thousands of times longer to break down than the actual food).
See your fantastic work at 0porciento.com:

Thanks for the message.

But I would like to point out the fact that there's only so much gravitational force to hold gasses in the atmosphere. The total cubic volume of the atmosphere has remained the same.
The atmosphere is not going to suddenly going to have the space to hold that "1.6 million tons."
hopefully this research will lead to some inspiration,
re-thinking solutions and some collaboration,
we must be wiser, not oil dependent nations,
bravo for this oil'd animation,
all that oil is 7hours. so how big would a swimming pool be to represent a global usages in one day O.O
I love a good infographic and this film really hit the spot.

Great work Chris!
Maybe a exploding helicopter or a slow motion gunfight could make it greater. ;]
The US use that much in 7 hours!
nice video !
