It takes ages to finish such video. Did you sleep last week at all ?
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 1 year ago
I started working on it at around 9 PM last night. I finished it at around 1:30AM, and then I waited for it to encode, upload on Vimeo, and get re-encoded. Time is 4:25AM as I write this. I am still up. ;-)

Very nice, especially the colours. Also the compression holds up quite good.

Very nice editing and really good colours. Very abstract, music goes well with the subject. I see some blocks and artifacts in the streamed video. I'll take another look at the downloaded version. I'd take out the (only) scene where you pan the camera.

    Awesome Eugenia!

Great edits, music and DOF, Nice use of shadows and really nice colors.

I'm saving a copy to play on new xbox360, my current one lost the battle to RROD :(

Thanks! BTW, I revisited this video this afternoon, making at least 8 changes to the video. It is much more faithful to the beat now, and a bit more interesting too. Additionally, I upgraded the bitrate to 6 mbps VBR (original version was 5 mbps VBR), so if you had downloaded the previous version, please re-download the new one — it’s better.

Your thinking of the older town. That one is just down the road and not actually on the beach where this shop is.

There's a NEW Bodega Bay? That's awesome. I've never been to the west coast, myself...I suppose I'll need to go and shoot where Hitch' did so many years ago. Nice little short subject regardless.

    Wow cool video
it's simple but yet very energetic, I like that.
You say you graded with Magic bullet in Vegas? How long did it take you to render that? I don't know why it takes me 10 mins to render a 30 sec footage with MB...
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 1 year ago
Thanks! It took 1 hour, 45 minutes to render this 4:30" video with Magic Bullet and the (also heavy) "border" and "unsharpen mask" Vegas plugins on my Quad Core 2.4 Ghz PC with the MainConcept h.264 encoder at 720/30p.

Fantastic piece, tight edit and great sound track.

    I liked it, ALOT!!!

It won't let me download the MP4 version :(

    I lied - MP4 worked.

Turn off all lighting in the room, turn the volume up as high as you can and enjoy.

    Amazing!
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 1 year ago
Thanks! BTW, please re-download it if possible.

15 minutes after you downloaded it, I uploaded a newer, better version (both in footage, and in visual quality).

Such great colors and movement. I went to a launch recently for a techno album and there were graphics projected onto a screen during the show. As I was watching this I kept thinking how suited this video is to such a venue. If anyone out there needs cool abstract video to project during a show...

Another great video. Which app did you use in Magic Bullet to color grade this video? Hints as to the process?

I am a Mac person, but have not yet obtained any of the Magic Bullets apps that allow color grading.

Hi,Eugenia. Good work! Iwas hoping for a 'reveal' but perhaps that would have weakened the film.

I would like to express my thanks to you for your advice and settings re Elements 4 and uploading to Vimeo.

My films look great...but the stutter is an issue on pans and tracks....

    best wishes, Bob UK

The HV20 kicks ASS! I love the colors, movements, framing, shadows, textures, and your eye for interesting shapes and colors.

If only the HV20 had a decent zoom controller and better low-light performance! I just can't walk into a corporate or event job with it -it's such a wee lil thang. It blows away my pro DV500 in most aspects of image quality. Color reproduction and fidelity are extraordinary. Who needs 3 chips when 1 chip filtering is this good?

Just a few more details pleeeze... Did you shoot 24pf? Did you do pulldown as an intermediate step? Did you consider the HV30's 30p as a better recording setting, with less judder?
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 10 months ago
Hi, thanks for the kind comment.

    >If only the HV20 had a decent zoom controller and better low-light performance!

It's actually better in low light than most cameras about this. The HV30 has a different zoom button than the HV20 btw.

    >it's such a wee lil thang.

That's another thing. You will have to educate your clients that bigger isn't always better. ;-)

    >Did you shoot 24pf? Did you do pulldown as an intermediate step?

No, I shot in 60i at highest shutter speed.

    >Did you consider the HV30's 30p as a better recording setting, with less judder?

Yes, but my HV20 doesn't do 30p. Only the HV30 and HV40 have this ability.

The XHA1 fairs better in low light and it has full customization and manual control but the HV20 is very similar in image to the XHA1

It's pretty amazing this is from the HV20, I want the HV30 as a back up for my XHA1, something that is an easy carry while biking and running.

Just as curiosity how long was all your stock footage??? Seems like you were there for a good hour plus!!! Love the colors and the way it is edited to the music. I have my notepad out when I watch your videos.

Quick question though, when you import is it very space consuming? If I shoot with my HV30 and import say a... 60 minute tape of HD footage it is 40gigs plus???

This is in Final Cut using the easy set up 1080 60i option...
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 5 months ago
I was there for about 30-40 minutes.

If you edit on a PC, with Sony Vegas, 1 tape is 12 GBs. But Apple's editors re-encode, and that makes it between 35 or 60 GBs per hour. There is an option on FCP to tell it to not re-encode in ProRES but use the native footage. That will keep the real .m2t files, and won't be over 12 GBs.

Thanks so much!!!! This is definitely what I was looking for in!!!!

Really nice editing and shooting. A very enjoyable watch.

I'm curious if you were using the BPM editing timebase in Vegas. Your edits and the timed effects feel like they're snapped to beats really well. It's the kind of feature that every video editing software should have.

The video is really fun and looks like you had a great time making it.

I can't imagine a much better music video about kites. I can't believe how long I've just been watching what is essentially spinning kites..

My only criticism would be that it SEEEMS you have fallen for the age old temptation of making the film fit the length of the song at all costs. Perhaps the music could have a minute or more cut out, and you could lose the weakest shots..? x
  • Eugenia Loli-Queru plus 3 months ago
Thanks. Actually, I have trimmed the song, so I haven't fall into that pitfall. ;-)
