Algerian writer and intellectual Anouar Benmalek discusses the effect of Islamic and state violence on art, criticism, and self-censorhip in North Africa (Algeria) during the 1990s and during the "civil war" in Algeria. This segment is part of my documentary on exiled writers from Muslim-majority states. Anouar Benmalek was forced into exile in France after death threats were made against him by radical Islamist in Algeria in the mid-1990s.
