Abstract
This article is an analysis of the possibilities of democracy in Brazil, considering the globalized scenario, and taking into account the importance of the new national social movements. In order to do so, especially Antonio Gramsci’s ideas, serve as support, since his writings are fundamental for the understanding of some current events in the Brazilian context. Considering the contradictions which are part of social movements, it is intended to highlight the importance of the democratic regime, the limits and possibilities of the democracies in a world dominated by the market, where economical problems seem to have disguised from the civil society, the political issue.
