looks like the "i believe" video by romain gavras for simian mobile disco....which i personally care for more. the alexa footage is beautiful though!!

    Precisely.

    Thought so too.
  • Kyle Haswell 9 months ago
Yeah, They definitely had to have gotten their idea from that video. It was cool, but I did enjoy "I believe" better.
  • Olly Newport 9 months ago
I Believe is a better track in my opinion, while the footage by Miller looks better I think the Garvras video holds attention for longer.
  • Trash-Dance 9 months ago
Had the same thought but then again it's technique that's been used since I don't know how long so I believe it's not just copying. Although it looks really inspired by the "I Believe" video. Maybe it could be seen as a compliment to Romain Gavras.. no?

Doesn't always have to be a message. Sometimes it's enough with beautiful shots. Not every musician makes music to send a message.
  • tschikay 9 months ago
there is a big message in it, and I got it the first time i saw just a fraction of the clip...you know, there is more than storylines, plot and logical combinations.

I ask you: If a painter could explain you in words what he is painting, then he woudn't need to paint the picture anymore. the expression of this video is beyond words and a pure logical plot, there are different feelings and atmospheres transmitted trough audio/video you couldn't tell otherwise.

and then the other story: it's a matter of taste, and if I look at you're profile, it could be that you're not interested in this kind of stuff, that you're looking for something totally different. no offense as well.
  • Michael Couch 9 months ago
Patrick - I've got to disagree with you. I understand what you are saying about if it's 3 minutes of kids skateboarding and the like. But look at this another way. What if I took one single frame from this video, and made it a print to hang on the wall - a photo at that point? Now if falls into the saying of a photo is worth a thousand words. To me, this is much more than some teenager's video of skateboarding or doing stupid crap. To me it's now 30 (or 60 or whatever) photos per second of a thousand words.

The other thing I see is that the video is kind of setting the stage for your imagination. You can listen to the music and come up with a whole scene yourself. In this case the stage has been set, now you can use your imagination to that setting. Sure, it's taken one of the elements away, but still leaves a lot more.

Aside from that I'd also say, to each his own.

Great video snapshot. Beautiful shots. What was the story/reason behind those people & that place? Just a snapshot of a place in time that seems timeless?
  •
  • tschikay 9 months ago
wow, great...really like the song in combination with the people/ dolly moves. how long was your dolly distance in average? 2-3 m? works really well with portraits!
  • tschikay 9 months ago
i see, steadycam probably on a vehicle, probs to jess haas! great work..
  • Ian Sherrington plus 9 months ago
No dollies, all the moves were done on an action cam steadicam rig. Push in's started at 30' and went to 3', usually on an Zeiss Standard Speed 16mm and 32mm @ 60FPS. Jess walked all of his shots, no vehicle mounts were used.

Touching. both the surreal of the decay and the still living people who live here. That there is live amoungst the ruins!
  •
  • Ken Nguyen 9 months ago
    captivating...
the music, the image quality, timing...camera movements
the people standing as if posing for a photo... unmoving as we almost uncomfortably take in everything on and around them.
Even the cameo cameraman makes in the shades of the smoker I like.
    Mad Descent...

The shots are beautiful, great color correction and lens flares, etc. and the music is cool, but I feel like it's missing something. The people standing don't really have to do with anything from what I can see, and no story really takes place or ties anything together. I just don't really get what the video is trying to communicate. To sum up, I feel like the video is sort of like a setup without a punchline. Just my 2 cents and it's still a fantastic visual/audio display.

absolutely beautiful. the color composition. the intrigue of each and every person's story in this looks like it could be a feature. the music was very different for the content that was presented but it was excellent anyways. very well executed. had no idea what this was about but again, maybe we aren't meant to know. there in lies the rub.
