Actually, I think I've got a Model 16 Teletype in my garage. It worked in the late 80's when I bought it. I have no idea if it works now or not.

Amazing.

These things used an 80mA signal loop that bit you if you put you finger in the wrong place. Plus they weighed about 35 kilos. I was *very* happy when the Model 14/15/19's were replaced with the Model 40!

But if you listen carefully, the sound of a free-running teletype is still used to suggest "newsroom" in TV and movies. -G-
