40 sec TV. One of a series of three Post Office spots, progressing the techniques developed for SOHO SQUARE vimeo.com/2226047. Each spot is based on first hand observation, with dialogue improvised in the sound studio to a prepared storyboard. The action is then recreated by actors and dancers miming to playback. This one is based on my own sketchbook drawings, made at a typical Saturday morning car boot sale (car trunk sale? garage sale? that sort of thing).

Devised & Directed by Mario Cavalli

    This is amazing.

The technique is really well achieved, especially on the car.

    Thank you, Jimmy.

Of all the pieces you're showcasing, this is by far my favorite. It's got punch, and kitsch, and enough vfx to make a graphics nerd stop and stare. Best wishes for a steady career...

I love the effect. Totally mesmerizing. I think it's the vertically washed out look thats so intriguing. It directs your attention to focus on the colors.

    When they made?
I like this one the best .
    The scripts are excellent.

Thanks, Murray. They were made ages ago, mid-90s or thereabouts...? Not entirely sure.

I'm glad you like the scripts. They were entirely improvised, to storyboards I had already prepared, which in turn were based on first hand observation (sketchbooks, video etc.) at the actual locations of each setting.

I briefed the voice actors (all stand-ups and improv comedians) on their characters and spent an hour in the recording studio, making stuff up, followed by hours of editing afterwards to get them down to 40 seconds.

The films were then shot in the studio, to playback, with different actors (mimes and dancers) miming to the edited track.
