Shot in 5K on a Red Epic. Director/DP Tom Lowe took the Leica Summilux-C lenses out for a shoot in the deserts of the Southwestern US and returned with this impressive footage.

This piece showcases the lack of distortion in the wide range (most of this piece was shot with the 18mm prime). Other optical characteristics are the edge-to-edge sharpness of the lenses when wide open (see the astrophotography shot).

Music is Violin Concerto: III by Philip Glass. Available on iTunes here bit.ly/hJsUrI

I like the idea of a 18mm f/1.4 lens for astrophotography, of course I'm wondering what the price is. They say if you have to ask, you can't afford it. :-)

P.S. if you download the video, you'll see it's *snowing* in the second scene.. gets lost with Vimeo compression.

Wow. Wind turbines with the stars.. and then the slowdown with the 2nd wind turbines.. intense.

Now that I've had a chance to watch it twice, the moon going behind the mountains... also very nice.

Great imagery. I'd love to play with those lenses a little with some sports filming and phantom slomo. Would be unreal.

Big thank you to my assistant Dustin "Dr. Kanab" Kukuk for helping me with this shoot, and to Randy, Seth, Amnon and Jeff at BandPro for giving me this opportunity and trusting me not run away to Mexico with their precious Leica primes. :)

Stunning footage. I especially love the Mono Lake tufa shot. Great job, Tom and Dustin.

The Summilux-C lenses are something else. If you didn't see this in all of its top quality goodness at NAB, do yourself a favor and download the high quality version above.
