A vicious attack against the young gay artist and his partner provides the catalyst for the transformation in the protagonist from successful artist to deeply scarred vigilante. Tormented by his inability to defend his boyfriend, who was murdered during the attack, The Artist emerges from the incident seeking not simply revenge upon the aggressors, but rather, he seeks to remove from society's elements which he deems capable of similar acts of hatred and violence. He wants to save others from ever becoming what he has, a victim wracked with guilt, self doubt and grief.
