In september 2007 fietsten John Telleman en Gudy Rooijakkers door Svaneti in Georgië.
Svaneti is een afgelegen streek in de hoge Kaukasus.
Een deel van de bevolking (Svanen) woont in middeleeuwse woontorens. Er zijn weinig dorpen en er is maar één doorgaande weg door heel Svaneti.

When are you going and what do you like to visit in Georgia and Armenia?
I ask this because I was warned to visit Svaneti in the spring.
Svaneti haves a very long winter in some parts more than 6 months.
The problem is animal dung. Al the sheep’s in Svaneti are kept in the villages.
So there is one layer of dung and then snow, more dung and snow and dung and so on.
When the snow is melting there are rivers of shit flowing in the streets.
For current safety you have to ask local organizations.

There are some confusing messages about which parts we should avoid. We have to ask around. We hope to stay as much as possible in the high mountains in Georgia and Armenia to avoid the heat.
