Our latest crisis, the automobile industry solvency issue, has generated a lot of discussion about another “bailout” for the big three auto makers. Given the legacy disadvantages they operate under and the drag of onerous union contracts, such a bailout would be a terrible waste of money. We actually have an OPPORTUNITY to push the “reset button” on the entire industry and emerge from a planned Chapter 11 with a much stronger industry.
