In this video, I take you through a few works in progress, and a number of tracks that I've started but never finished over the years. I show you how they've been pieced together in FLStudio, and share with you my thoughts and feelings regarding each track.

Awesome. Would be very interested to see a video of how you prep your samples; software, selection, chopping, mixing etc.
Really enjoying these Behind Pogo videos, cheers for putting them up!

Mmm, good idea. I'll see what I can do. Thanks, Eddy!

I'm curious about the samples too. I was wondering what software you were using, until I realized FL means Fruity Loops, which is, correct me if I'm wrong - free :-)

Your work is very inspiring, Nick. Keep it up!

I am really digging the slow tempo, hip-hop feel with the A.I. remix. You should definitely stick with that type of beat.
  • Nick Bertke plus 9 months ago
I'm liking it, too. The minimal house stuff is getting a trifle samey.

These videos are absolutely wonderful, they bring a whole new level of enjoyment to your music. I love the feeling of nostalgia that comes along with each of your tracks and I look forward to hearing whatever you do next.
I'm especially excited to hear the finished AI piece!
I agree with Eddy Charlton as well; it'd be interesting to learn about that part of your process.

Your music mixes really move me on a incredible level of emotion! Now that i've heard Haley Joel osment in A.I i can only think about a mix of The Sixth Sense! U probably are known with the music of James Newton Howard? I mean, thats pure gold to work with! Perhaps a idea for the future, you just rock, keep on going mate!

Awesome! 8 out of 10 tracks go unreleased?! Man, Nick... and I thought you release a shit ton of tracks as it is! You are truly a music-making machine! :)

The Aladdin mix is sweet. Hope to see a finalized version out at some point. Also really like that AI mix you got going. Very laid back, very chill. And of course, I Like Your Floor ;P

I was surprised to hear the bass sample you chose for your Cinderella mix. Solo'd, it sounds a bit harsh with all the upper harmonics going on, but it sits surprisingly well in the mix and cuts through well. Though as you mentioned, nothing has been EQ'd yet in that mix, so I imagine everything would come together even better once fine-tuning is underway.

Also, the Gamecube mix? Very nostalgic! It's awesome to hear those menu sounds again, now all chopped up and remixed. Very cool. If I'm not mistaken, it sounds like you may have used some of the Gamecube samples as percussion in your Walking On A Dream remix? They sounded a bit familiar...
  • Nick Bertke plus 9 months ago
No, the sounds in my Walking On A Dream remix were all recorded in my car. I can certainly hear the similarities, though. Thanks again, Alvin!

Amazing, simply and purely amazing. For the songs you added more sections too, like the Hook and Mary Poppins tracks, were you originally planning on tagging them on to Bangarang and Expialodocious? Just a curiosity. Please release these asap. Both you and I (and QUITE a few more listeners) need this on our iPods. :)
  • Nick Bertke plus 9 months ago
No, these are very much separate tracks that would not have worked tacked on to others. It'd be great to release some of these in future. Thanks, Christine.

It's interesting to hear the back catalogue. It's also interesting to hear just one or two bars of a work, or a non work.

I like also that you're releasing this onto vimeo. if you released this on YouTube, some comments would look like "Why didn't you release this? What are you doing there? What does C5 mean? What program do you use? etc."
  • Nick Bertke plus 9 months ago
Yes, and I'm certain the video quality would have been worse as well. I'm liking Vimeo very much for its clean design, smart features, and outstanding video quality. Thanks for your support, Joshua.

    Really nice video!

I was thinking, just a suggestion, that you should try to use two bass-lines, one for the left ch and one for the right.
If you use different key you can certainly get a more wide stereo sound.

Anyway, it would be really interesting discover how you select and edit your samples. I think that the way you use your samples is really unique.

I've been liking your video showcases a lot, Nick! I'll gladly watch more of these!

Wish-thinking from my side would be if you could upload some of these tracks somewhere like Soundcloud or your own site, but I would surprised if you did so.

    Keep on rocking, man!

Please PLEASE finish the A.I track. Like you I am a HUGE fan of the movie for both it's audio and visual presentation on every level.
What I've heard so far sounds really good so please give this one a chance and put it on the top of your list if possible.
Your tribute will speak to many more fans out there. Guaranteed! :D

A.I. is also one of my all-time favorite films. Just the bits you teased here had me welling up with emotion. "I like your floors" and "come here, Teddy".

Since it's one of your favorites, I truly hope you are able to release a version that's to your liking some time soon. Otherwise, I'll just have to keep loading this vimeo video up. Haha!

    Thanks, Pogo!!

I love hearing these snippets and seeing how you build up your songs. But what I completely adore is in your vocals for Maggie. The arrangement that you had was lovely, but when you added that high pitched sound that sounded like she was saying "When I'm", I completely fell in love. I could listen to that one arrangement all day.

I can't wait to hear your A.I. track, it completely captures the feeling of the film. And I love that Mary Poppin's snippet, that beat and the way you used the merry go round's melody was wonderful. It's very relaxing like your other track Bootiful, such a pleasant surprise that it went down that path.

and 9 months later I finally watch this video. Really cool to see you break down all the sounds in your compositions. I'm also glad that you released "Davyd" ...and the "Oh yes's" work!

Any chance of you releasing the Secret Garden track? I agree that it's not exceptionally well-structured, but I still loved every bit of it!
