F5 2011 RE:PLAY Film Festival. Inductance
9 months ago
“Happy” was the theme we were given by the organizers for this year's F5 Re:Play Fest ( f5fest.com ), held in April in NYC, to create this edition's pieces, probably the hardest thing to convey in any artistic expression. After a good deal of introspection, and teaming up with awesome motion graphics artist Gerardo del Hierro, we decided that happy wasn't happy for Physalia unless pliers, microchips and a bit of soldering were involved, and with this idea we resolved to create the happiest machine Physalia has built to date.

Maravilla hecha pelotitas de colores. Enhorabuena!
Great work, though.
The seller of the so called "huge elektromagnet":
purpyenough
Does not exist
Notice a little giveaway on the computer screen at 0:22 ?
Still amazing work.
I invented something to make things rise up by inertia..
If it works we can put this inside the balls to make rise
up without outside magnet..
Its idea till now and i don't know if it works..but we can
try because it is cheap
Everything we do is fake. Fake color, contrast, frame rate (speed), motion graphics, etc. What's the difference?
I loved it. For a moment, I felt the same way i did when I saw my first card trick: thirsty for more.
INCREDIBLE!
It's really inspiring and exciting to see such creative thinking instead of turning to CGI!
I thought they but metal things inside colored balls and turned up and down the power lever on an electromagnet to make them fly out the box and move about like a wave?
:)
I need more.
a: Ebay seller for 'gigantic elektromagnet' doesn't exist.
b: The guys that made this are a media design company that do a lot of CGI work. Not physics.
c: @ 0.22 the guy has after effects open on his screen
d: The shadows are partially there, but they don't properly work. In fact they are quite basic composites in AE. You need to take more consideration in to your shadows, its the first thing people go for & there isn't enough detail in here to keep me entertained....
Overall, good attempt but swing & a miss
@ Physalia Studios - Hey guys... superb short! Perhaps you should post it to YouTube as well to keep that particular crowd off of Vimeo? Just a thought.... ;)
After having developed a new animation technique where I made use of magnetic fields, I thought it was complete madness to place such a powerful electromagnet close to computers. Then I realized how talented you are at CGI :)
Feel free to have a look at my low-tech animation which is made using iron filings and magnetic fields:

Thanks for your comments! It's not surprising that you couldn't find anything by Fernando because this is his first published piece! And a pretty succesful one, so we're very happy for him.
But in his daytime life, he's none other than Fernando from genius Dvein, check them out if you haven't (some people were born with all the talent!!) :))):

As the reception of the piece has been so awesome, he's thinking about uploading the piece for everyone to download, among other treats :)
We'll keep you all posted!
Best,
Physalia
- Picture of the magnet: the ceiling of the seller in Belarus (...) is the same as Physalia's...
- The magnet was still on eBay one day before posting the video
Aun así, increíble!
Parece real.
PLEASE.
Comment with care
