This is a visualization of the svn commit logs of SuperCollider (a real time audio synthesis programming language supercollider.sourceforge.net/) project. The logs were taken from sourceforge, it starts from July 13, 2004 and ends in November 23, 2008 covering 1594 days (or in other words 4 years, 4 months and 10 days) of activity.

The visualization is made with the great code-swarm project by Michael Ogawa (and probably others). You can obtain it from: vis.cs.ucdavis.edu/~ogawa/codeswarm/

The music piece is taken from one of my own works (which is also created entirely with SuperCollider and deQuencher btw).

SuperCollider is a great environment and I wanted to create this to show my appreciation to those who are making it possible! And... data visualization is fun. Eh... Enjoy. :)

I can't say i completely understand this but it has a very interesting aesthetic. I like the combination of the different visualizations.

How hard is SuperCollider to learn?

Hello Anthony, the visualization code is not mine, I only made the system to use SuperCollider commit logs. Thanks.

The learning curve of sc is a little steep, but really depends on where you are coming from. If you used pd/max-msp before and/or if you know something about object oriented programming, it will become a lot easier. the pd/max idiom is a lot different but having experience in building your own stuff helps a lot.

now there is an upcoming sc book from mit press, when it is out, things will become a lot easier, i think.

cool. I've done a little object oriented programming and worked with pure data some. I'll have to give it a try when i have some time.
