Project BEYOND THE WALL, by Camille Aymon, Alexandre Burdin-François, Carina Ow and Ellwood Léo Spafford in the workshop Reactive Walls directed by Camille Scherrer & Sigma6
The group was primarily interested in exploring the notion of augmenting physical space, through the overlaying of simulated perspectives in the form of image projections. The team chose to work on a classical-style corniced wall in the lobby that featured a central window with a decorative sill. Employing the available tools (projector, video camera, Sigmaflow mapping software), the wall was light-painted with 3 different animation sequences that created surreal virtual spaces carved beyond the surface of the wall. These sequences were triggered off by the entry of visitors into the lobby space and depended on the position of the person.
