Gottfried Helnwein and The Dreaming Child is a feature length documentary film about a new Israeli Opera production written by Hanoch Levin, Israel’s most important playwright who passed away in 1999. In 2009, world renowned artist, Gottfried Helnwein, was hired by the Israeli Opera Company to design the sets and costumes for this never before seen opera. This opera “The Child Dreams” vividly portrays the hopes and dreams of innocent children in search of freedom and peace. For artist Helnwein, the child has always been the symbol of innocence and innocence betrayed. This new film is the story of Gottfried Helnwein fighting for the original vision of Hanoch Levin. Helnwein feels Levin has the same underlying theme in his writing as he has in his paintings….
