Dazed & Confused travelled to Iceland to shoot the second Reykavik Fashion Festival, opened by the city's mayor Jon Gnarr with a famous letter from Lieutenant Colonel Mervin Willett Gonin. The officer was among the first soldiers to liberate concentration camp Bergen-Belsen in 1945, and he described how the arrival of hundreds of lipsticks at the camp began to give the prisoners back their humanity. It was an unusual speech to give on the catwalk but an effective one, reminding us that fashion can is about identity and escapism; individuality and expression... freedom.
