Self made dolly (inspired by GlideTrack)
SlikPro Tripod

Edited in FCP & Apple Colors

Self made dolly?
My dolly looks like this: flickr.com/photos/inspbylife/5697600132/#/photos/inspbylife/5697600132/lightbox/ It has only 0,5 m long. I made it from igus parts igus.com/wpck/default.aspx?pagename=drylin_w

The dolly is extremly mobile. With Slik Pro 340 DX tripod & head it weighs 2,5 KG. Not so much :)

It's cost about 160 euro:
- Slik Pro tripod with head: 60 euro
- Parts from Igus (rail + guide carriage): 100 euro

The colors are beautiful ! How do u grade it?
  • Kyoto Studio 9 months ago
    In Apple Color.
    Many masks and saturations :)
  • Stefan Lee plus 9 months ago
Do u use any custom curves? :O I can't seem to create colors like yours.
  • Kyoto Studio 9 months ago
Mostly I use color wheels, not curves.

I separately masking sky, greens, etc in Secondaries. I pump up saturation and making adjustments in color wheels (making blue more blue). Sometimes little adjustments in Primary to match the tones between clips.
  • Stefan Lee plus 9 months ago
Thanks!! I'll try it out on my cc asap. :D Really loved the sceneries in Thailand! Freaking awesome.

Very nice man. I worked on Lipe as a dive instructor for four seasons. Awsome place. I now film with a 5D also! What kind of dolly did you use? I see you say it is a home made one. Interested to know how you make it compact enough to carry with you.
Cheers, and thanks for the nice footage of Lipe!
  • Kyoto Studio 9 months ago
Koh Lipe is the most beautiful place i've ever been! Really.

  • Kyoto Studio 9 months ago
    Thanks a lot.

Animation at the beginning - I just bought AE project on the stock and made my changes: videohive.net/item/sand-text/128417 . The project uses Trapcode Particular plugin.

Nice. Reminds me a lot of things. Tears in my eyes. I'll go back in Asia in the end of the year for a few months, can't wait!
You have some rolling shutter. You can correct it with the last imovie, or with the next FCP (FCP X, in june, looks amazing).
  • Kyoto Studio 9 months ago
Yeah, I'm looking forward to new FCP X. Looks great & uses multiple processors.

This year We going to Malaysia & Singapore (and Bangkok). I'm falling in love with Asia :)

Quality of 5DMK2 shots is awesome. Neither GH1 or GH2 nor Canon 7D won't give you shots like that. Good work, precisely edited. Also I like your pictures on flickr.

    Beautiful video.
Question: did you record with the default picture style or load a custom style (e.g. like the Technicolor Profile for Canon)?
  • Kyoto Studio 8 months ago
I used "Neutral" picture style. No custom style.

Great Work. Really incredible shots, and well cut. I was in Thailand in December/January and loved shooting there. Your dolly is awesome. I need to make one for my trip to Vietnam in a few months. I've been looking for something small enough for travel.

Great job man... the most watchable vacation video I've seen in a long time.

I'm wondering if there is a tutorial you followed for the title animation at the beginning. I've been trying to find something with a similar effect where the "kyoto studio" evaporates off the page.
  • Kyoto Studio 9 months ago
That's completely sweet man, thanks a lot.

Amazing work man! I was wondering if you had any stabilizing device while shooting or did you maybe use motion or anything to make it so smooth while on the boat and such. Or you could just be a Jedi with super steady hands! ha. Good work bro.
  • Kyoto Studio 9 months ago
We took stedicam merlin with us but we used it only in few shots on the beach (camera around me and camera following Ivona - my girlfriend). The rest was shot from hand or tripod.
