When growing its antler, the stag of the red deer (Cervus elaphus) induces massive osteoporosis in its bones every year, only to reverse it by mating season. My father László Orosz has worked on the genetics of antler growth for years now after a career in prokaryote genetics. Understanding antler development may be the key to finding a cure for osteoporosis. Originally published by Index Video on October 15, 2008.
