In a dark city … where it always rains … he’s still alive … and he’s pissed-off! He’s green ... he’s dangerous ... and he’s coming soon to a theatre near you … GREENBOY!
GREENBOY was a performance about the teenage superhero, Greenboy, staged in a brand new visual form combining animation theatre with elements from comic books, movies, computer games and green screen technology. Light, sound, actors, puppets, camera – action!
In the dark nights of the city the teenage superhero, Greenboy, fights a bitter struggle against cruelty and injustice. The evil Queen of the Night has long been ruthlessly ruling the underworld and when the mysterious Dr. Metropolis suddenly appears things really start happening … Life as a superhero is exiting and hurried but in daytime Greenboy is also just a teenager being tired to death of school, bullying, pimples and all the chores. He lives alone with his estranged father and is hopelessly in love with the girl next door who he dreams of rescuing from all the troubles of the world. And so he does!
Many years later a reporter seeks out the phenomenon and tells his story. Why did Greenboy throw off the mask? Why did he give up the fight and grew up? And where is he now when we need him more than ever?
GREENBOY is a youth performance for everyone between 10 and 1000 years. It is a fairytale in search of the superhero in all of us – with or without the mask. Using the classical super hero genre known from movies and comic books together with the latest video and computer technology, the performance examines teenage life, reflecting upon the fantasy world of optimistic youth, in contrast to practical adult realities. But how real is reality and where is it?
The making of GREENBOY re-united the artistic team that brought you the animation performances "Brudstykker af min marionetdukkes bekendelser" (2006) and "Non-Stop" (2008), and marked the theatrical debut of KRASH KOMPAGNI. The international performance director, and Reumert-Award winning set designer, Edward Lloyd Pierce, had directed and designed the text written by Simon K. Boberg and Spild af Tid, who has had great success in previous collaborations with Holland House, provided the video design, and green-screen visuals. Mads Wille, Mia Lerdam and Peder Holm Johansen joined forces on stage, animating characters made by the Reumert-Award winner Carl Press. The performance was a CO-production with Krash Kompagni which was supported by The Danish Arts Council.
