If you like playing the piano, or listening to its music, you should see what is inside one. This is a project that we started in December 2006. Florida State University has in recent years started an innovative master's program in Piano Technology. The students in the program work 12 hour days for 2 years, each maintaining 50 pianos, tuning harpsichords and forte pianos weekly, and- the most rigorous task- completely rebuilding a 1954 Mason & Hamlin grand piano. I spent over a year going to their workshop and getting footage of them working on this instrument. This video was shown at the premiere performance of the newly completed instrument in early 2008. That performance, with an extended look at the program and restoration became Keys & Hammers, which has recently premiered on WFSU-TV.
