Refuge is hard to come by during the festival. Any nook formerly blessed with the graces of solemnity are quickly snapped up and aggressively transformed into venue platforms, WiFi islands, beer tents and piss holes. The songs of Kat Burns, capable of carving out their own such refuge in even the most tumultuous of crowds, deserve a sanctuary.

In north Austin, below the expanses of their formidable golfing green, we prepared just such a hideaway from the clamor of downtown.

Amidst a child's riding horse, an out-of-season grapevine, to the light of a mile of disused Christmas lights and to the sound of distant fireworks, two of the Forest City Lovers filled our little oasis with song.
