The other day we were egging a friend on about his upcoming best man speech. We asked him to give a simple toast at a wedding shower/brunch we were hosting for my brother-in-law, and he basically froze up.
So instead of encouraging him and making him feel better about himself, we took the opportunity to engage in some witty banter and give him a few helpful”suggestions”–at the expense of his feelings of course.
Despite our solid advice, the exchange ended with our friend getting booed and my brother-in-law telling him that he probably wouldn’t be making the cut in their wedding video.
Craig and Justyna’s wedding, on the other hand, had a perfect example of a speech that worked very well. The best man was the groom’s brother. Drawing from personal experience and his relationship with his brother, and tying that experience to his advice to the bride and groom proved to be engaging, funny, and emotionally rich.
And yes, his speech did make the cut in the video :]
