Early this year I directed and edited 'Alive in Tahiti' . The movie focused on 10 days with Donavon in Tahiti... Family, Friends, Music, Surfing, all the things that put a smile on Donavon's face. The project meant a lot to me... I lost my dad to cancer just prior to beginning the project, if it wasn't for the movie I probably would of rotted away in bedridden depression... My dad was my best mate... It was hard, still is...
The movie had its ups and downs... I kicked over a harddrive and lost the lot... 1000GB of HD had to be recaptured... HD is good to look at, but it's a cunt... Kinda like Paris Hilton... There was a few other hiccups, but its a beautiful movie so i'll focus on the positives...
I spoke to Donavon over the phone a few times, we spoke about the 'look and feel' of the movie... 'Cosmic' was what he was after... I couldn't find any LSD... ( just stirrin' ) So i relied on caffeinne and durries to get me through the toughest project of my life.
What Donavon said to me at the end of the project was one of the finest gestures i've ever received...
'Hey Jake, I'm cool if you want to tribute this movie to your dad'... I almost teared up. My dad was one of the keenest and talented surfers in Noosa... One of the good old boys of Ti- Tree. I had told Donavon how I used to watch 'Searching for Tom Curren' and the 'Pink Floyd live in concert' movie religiously with my dad as a kid... I kept those 2 films in mind the entire time I worked on this fim.
Here is the 'friends' section from the film.
A massive thanks to Thai Neave ( Producer/ Co- Director / Concept ), Mike Calvino ( Producer / Concept ) and Bali Strickland ( Principle Videographer ) for making this possible. Enjoy
