Every Thanksgiving my brothers and old childhood friends gather for the traditional turkey bowl football game. This is the game where "Legends" are made or at least for a few hours we feel 15 again. It is only then we realize that we are getting older and every muscle in our bodies aches and every bruise really hurts.

Music by: Jerry Goldsmith from the soundtrack "Rudy".

This comment made me laugh as I read this from my phone in the middle of church. Thanks Clan! It was almost a trailer like yours.

Sweet, I made it into the highlights and it wasn't a blooper shot. Thanks for the cool video Jared. I felt a little like Rudy while watching your video.

I'm not a fan of football, but this is brilliant

Me neither. I can handle it once a year at most. I prefer hockey!

The only thing that made me pull the camera out was the thought of I wonder what this would look like on this shutter speed and shot like this. I have learned to follow these impulses.

Man, this is so awesome. Would you mind sharing the FPS or what ever it is that gives it that Saving Private Ryan-type crispness in the action shots?

And, yeah. Hockey is so much better.

I shot at 1/1000th of shutter speed. I then using the HVX200 had the ability to adjust the Sync Scan feature to 10 db. I think this is the shutter angle but I don't know I need to research that. I have heard that adjusting the shutter angle will give you a sharp "saving Private Ryan" feel.

The other thing is I got in with the action. I ran with the line. I charged the quarterback and got as many angles as I could to give me options as an editor. I shot all the slow motion stuff at 60FPS.

Sorry, but I DO love football, and this was great! I just signed up with Vimeo and your Christmas video was the first video I watched. I love what you've done with your work. Very inspirational!

Welcome to a wonderful community. If you look at my first video I uploaded 6 months ago I too was and am always inspired here.

Jared this was great! Although I'm sore watching it.

Help me understand the difference between 1/1000th of shutter speed and 60fps.

The Panasonic hvx200 camera has a feature where I can record 60 frames per second. Shooting at 24 frames or 3o frames is normal speed. Overcranking is shooting more than 24 or 30 frames to slow things down. Undercranking would allow me to shoot 18, or 12 frames per second to create fast "speed up" shots. Shooting at 60 frames per second is really smooth slow motion.

See the shot at 1:01 as an example of 60 FPS.

1/1000th is a manual feature much like photography where you can adjust the shutter speed. Using 1/1000 is often used to catch fast action with sharp detail. It is a great way to freeze fast action. Using it in video allows sharper detail to motion. It also requires more light into the camera to allow you to use such a high shutter but usually in Arizona outside I have all the light I need.

    I hope this helps.

Gotcha! I was thinking frames per second for both but this clears it up. I'm familiar with how to shoot 60fps. I'll have to check if my hv20 can change the shutter speed.

    Thanks Jared and again...awesome video!
