Here is a low light test comparing noise (gain) in skin tones. The cameras included are: Panasonic AF-100, Panasonic HPX-3700, Sony EX-3, Canon 5dmk2 The subject was lit using only a small LitePanels LED at 50% approx 4ft away. Due do the camera's different light sensitivities I have lined up the comparisons based on the subjects skintone exposure or IRE on a waveform monitor.
To emphasize the video noise, the tests have been scaled approx 200% from it's original size.
These camera results were compared to demonstrate how "traditional" video cameras get very noisy at higher db compared to larger chip cameras at high ISO.
This video is being used as part of my presentation at the Producer's Guild East meeting on 5/17/11 at Blue in Philadelphia, PA.
