Nine people traveled from the U.S. to a small village an hour South of Fortaleza, Brazil to give dental care to 165 people in four and a half days. They completed 495 procedures. Filmed, photographed, edited and produced by Kristina Wright.
This was my first time venturing beyond still images by adding the elements of motion pictures and sound to produce my first documentary. I bought the camera, microphones and a plethora of power adapters (for international travel) seven days before leaving. The expedition took place in May of 2010. I had the final edit complete by mid July.
Holy buckets, I loved being a film crew of one! My appetite for flying by the seat of my pants is relentless. I was excited for the challenge of not knowing what to expect (weather, access to power, I don't speak Portuguese.) I hoped that my story telling instincts would develop depth in the story as our trip progressed. Yep - I am meant to do THIS; it's my natural high, my happy place and it gives me more energy than one chick should have. I freelance, so if you've got a project or an adventure to be filmed, please don't hesitate to call or email anytime. Cheers!
