This shows the process of vacuforming letters. The letters are designed and sculpted in foam by the students of the 3rd year Graphic Design at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague, kabk.nl . A nice contrast between high tech materials and very analog results. The molds still need to be cleaned before any casting can happen. The material is Vivak plastic from Bayer, said to be safe for food.

The 2010 experiments showed that the 0.5mm plastic (as indicated in this movie) is not thick enough for some shapes. Results with the 1mm material were promising, though it means that creases and folds will be thicker as well.
Modelling with clay was also an improvement. The foam tended to stick to the plastic. The clay comes out really nicely and can be sanded too.
