Remixed explores the differences and relative effectiveness between motion graphics communication and 2d print communication, with the focus on how audiences understand information.
I have used the art of 'beat matching' two records together as the vehicle to push this experiment forward. By combining the advantages of 'print' (it's conventionalized static nature and it's capacity to inform through information graphics) with the advantages of motion graphics (sound and motion). I have aimed to creatively inform the viewer of how this complex process works.
Remixed is all about communicating through sound and design. For the core design I have employed Information graphics as the visual medium to communicate. I realized early in my research that information graphics conventionally all have the same 'neutral' aesthetic in order not to distract the viewer from comprehending the information directly. For me however, I feel that information portrayed in such a way has no character, hence is uninspiring and therefore I lose interest in it. I wanted to find out if it were possible to take the core purpose of information graphics (to inform) and give it life or character.
My publication/workbook is the visual journey through my thought process. Its purpose is to inform the viewer of my decisions in which I took while creating Remixed. It also aims to translate motion back into 2d print in a cohesive form.
Sound is crucial to the successful comprehension of my experiment. I have used sound as a medium to communicate, but sound alone in this experiment would never inform the viewer of how to beat match. Only by synchronizing sound with visual design does the viewer have an opportunity to understand what I am trying to communicate; beat matching two snares together.
