this was the last movie i made for my 8mm class in college (1998). i ran track and cross country in high school and it made a huge impact on me so it was an easy subject to choose. i recruited the help of my old running friends that were still attending high school at the time. the man who plays the coach was the actual track coach that started after i graduated. we shot it at Cal State Long Beach one weekend. i shot the opening and the race official at one of their track meets.

a challenge was to make it seem like there was a track meet going on when it was actually just the 6 of us. when only shooting the main characters i tried to have the other kids mill around the background.

Notes: Shot on Super 8, projected in a room with music playing out of two stereos, video taped in that room, transferred from video to DVD, imported from DVD to editing software, compressed for Vimeo. Music is Smashing Pumpkins and Vangelis.
