In 2007, a ceremony was held for the felling of a tree slated to become a dugout canoe for the Smithsonian's new Ocean Hall. The Raven canoe was carved at Sealaska Plaza by Doug Chilton. It was launched on the Potomac River in 2008 and is now on permanent display at the museum in Washington D.C. The group at the tree ceremony gave thanks to the tree and spread down on a blanket to cushion its fall. Video production by Morgan Howard Productions.
