The Proclamation of the Holy Gospel according to Saint John.
Jesus said to his disciples, “If you love me you will keep my commandments and I will ask the Father and he will give you another advocate to be with you always. The spirit of truth whom the world cannot accept because it neither sees nor knows him, but you know him because he remains with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans, I will come to you.
In a little while the world will no longer see me but you will see me because I live in you and I will live and you will live. On that day you will realize that I am in the Father and you are in me and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father and I will love him and reveal myself to him.
The Gospel of the Lord.
A couple of weeks ago we celebrated good shepherd Sunday and we talked about that shepherd and how he continues to lead the flock. Here we are even more weeks after the resurrection and all of the stores devoid of anything that even speaks of Easter. Everything is gone and here we are still reflecting on the resurrection of Christ.
Isn't it strange we still want to talk about that Easter joy? It seems as if the Lord has left us along with all of those other trappings of Easter and all of the decorations but the Lord has not left us. The Lord has continued to leave the word for us and we are to truly draw our strength from that word. We are to be that living word and we need to share that word with others and so even though the Easter bunnies are gone and all of the decorations are gone and it seems as if Easter is long gone we still live in the light of the resurrection and may that light continue to shine on us and may we be a light to others so that they may come to know the risen Christ as well. Amen.
