I made this for my Halloween costume this year.

It's a 16x5 LED matrix installed inside a cheap motorcycle helmet I found on Amazon. I used the Arduino to program all the animations. (arduino.cc)

The LEDs are on cardboard, so I punched holes between every single LED and some larger slits around the sides in order to see out.

That is really cool. What controls the display, an Arduino? It's weird, I'm in the process of making the same type of video as I solder together this mini segmented LED display that will read out live Digg stats. But yours is cooler...by a lot.

Have you made the controller by yourself?
In about one year im a skilled eletrician, leds arent a problem, th programming is i guess :D
havent worked with microcontrollers yet, only with bigger controls like S7, but thats not what i'd need for sumthing like that i guess :D

I used the Arduino's microcontroller (ATmega168). You should check out arduino.cc. The Arduino makes hardware programming super simple!

Very hard to breathe! I could only wear it for brief periods of time before I'd start sweating and panting. I should drill in some more breathing holes.
