A short mountain bike film, shot in Andalucía, Spain

This was my first experiment with filmmaking - shot on my new Canon 60D while visiting my brother in spain.

Credit goes to the riders, Pete and my brother Mark, for putting up with my sloppy directorial technique.

Also a big thanks to everyone else at Joyriders for a wonderful stay!

And finally, a huge amount of credit is also due to Ben Howard for the soundtrack - Ben is an up and coming musician from Devon, UK. My brothers and I are all huge fans of his music and I hope this video helps to spread the word – if you like what you hear, his music is available on iTunes – download it now!

Location: Andalucía, Spain
Date: March 2011
Equipment: Canon 60D, 18-135mm, 50mm f/1.8

JUst got a 60d and this is one of the best looking films I've seen shot on it. Inspiring stuff. :) Did you use any Picture Profile settings to shoot (i.e. Cinestyle)? How did you guys grade the film?
  • Harry Nesbitt 6 months ago
Thanks! The grading was done with Final Cut, and all the shooting was done using manual settings, changing between 24 and 60fps depending on the speed/resolution required. Hope that helps!
  • Gal Ben-Haim 6 months ago
what shutter speed did you use for the 60fps shots ?
  • Harry Nesbitt 6 months ago
I usually prioritise the aperture, meaning the shutter speed is adjusted per shot to control the light level. For some of the wider shots, I used a higher f/stop and a lower shutter to exaggerate the motion blur.

Hi Jiri, I'm really glad you liked the video! In my everyday life I'm a freelance illustrator/designer, but the rider in the video (my brother) runs a Mountain Biking holiday company that includes all the trails in this video. If you're interested you can check out his site here - joy-riders.com

Great work! The shots are excellent. I think about buying a Canon 18-135. What do you think about Canon 18-135 good choice for the video?
  • Harry Nesbitt 2 weeks ago
It's a great piece of kit - the image stabilisation really comes into it's own for any handheld shots!
