augmented media sculpture (studio installation, 2011)
This concept utilizes set pieces of equipment of a jet pilot
(helmet, vizor, oxygen mask) assembling the anonymous appearance
of a combat air fighter, as a kind of hardware canvas,
juxtaposed to a sequence of emotionally charged motion images
appearing, almost like sacred visions of intimate thoughts,
on the helmet vizor.
Visions take the viewer out of the 'real world' into some kind of
parallel universe, where, among other a summer spider web appears,
strumming internal chords of loss and fixation. Maybe it's moving images
of a fugitive human, trying to escape intimate confrontation by the means
of sophisticated (warfare) technology.
Are they memories or just imagination, flashing through a human mind,
travelling the skies with GODSPEED (also the name of one of the
three ships to found the initial English settlement in
North America, Jamestown).
The HD video is part of JET SET series - it's centerpieces a series of
augmented media sculptures with the original helmet resting
on sewage pipe columns (reflecting processes of excretion),
with a videostream projected onto the vizor
from within the sculpture proper.
