S President Barack Obama will participate in his first East Asia Summit (EAS) in Bali, Indonesia later this year. CSIS is convening experts to discuss some of the key trends that will be on the agenda for this meeting of leaders of 18 Asia Pacific countries. Important discussions are ongoing about how to integrate concepts such as connectivity, maritime security, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief and financial issues into a leader-led discussion that can advance peace and prosperity in the world?s most dynamic region. The event's discussion will be kicked off by CSIS President and CEO Dr. John Hamre and feature opening remarks by visiting ASEAN Secretary General Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, Michitaka Nakatomi, President of JETRO, and Daniel Russel, the new Senior Director for Asia at the National Security Council.
