Abstract:
We are going through some big changes that impact the life sciences. We are moving to a world where "petascale" will not be a strange, exotic term, a world in which science will be done across the globe, leveraging the power and connectivity of the web, and where computing is available when we need it, where we need it. In this talk, we will discuss some of the challenges and opportunities driven by these developments and what we should be doing as a community.
About the speaker:
Dr. Deepak Singh works with Amazon Web Services promoting and enabling scientific cloud computing using Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). A proponent of leveraging web technologies for dissemination of scientific information and techniques, Dr. Singh founded Bioscreencast, a site for scientists to engagingly present their research using multimedia. Dr. Singh also writes prolifically on topics ranging from open notebook science to personalized medicine in his blog "business|bytes|genes|molecules", and records a new weekly podcast, "Coast to Coast Bio" with co-host Dr. Hari Jayaram.
