ONCE IT STARTED IT COULD NOT END OTHERWISE (Kelly Sears | Houston, Texas | 7 min.)
Part disaster film, part Freudian animation, Once It Started… bears witness to a series of absurd and horrible disasters that strike an American high school, eerily mirroring larger political and social markers of the recent past. Supported by the Rooftop Filmmakers’ Fund. kellysears.com

Spooky. A masterpiece of tension and sound-design.

So... was this just made by kids and we should like it because they made an effort? I mean its pretty weak right?

I'm sorry but it was extremely boring and too slow.

Whatever it was, boy, I bet it was really bad! Blood dripping and people running. General dismay. Once you start the year without school spirit, things go downhill rapidly. People not doing their jobs! That's not right!

i think this succeeds as an art film and should be judged as such. i would have liked to have heard more dynamic sound design and i think the arc of what happened could have been more defined/explored beyond what's on the slates. the editing and pacing are reasonably well executed but i found the middle sequence starting at 5:00 a tad cliche'. all that said, i still think it's an interesting piece that's worth the time as is kelly's other work on her site. i'd love to see what else she puts out in the future.
